Wellness with Horses

We're better together

Safe, supportive relationships and healthy communication are essential for health and wellness - whether you're a horse or a human. Unfortunately, the effects of trauma and hardship can compromise one's capacity for these necessities, with lasting impact not only on behavior, but also on physical and mental wellbeing.

Our unique Wellness with Horses program brings participants back to their core needs through mindful experiences with our horses. Horses who, like them, have been impacted by stress, trauma and hardship.

Together, our participants and horses experience supportive relationships and build skills for healthy connections. Together, they create new patterns for a brighter future ahead.

Wellness with Horses is an equine-assisted learning (EAL) program that facilitates personal development and improved wellbeing through mindful interactions with horses. Led by an Equine Professional trained in EAL, trauma recovery, and relationship-based horsemanship, our one-of-a-kind approach is rooted in ethical practices that prioritize wellbeing for both the horse and the human participant. Key themes that are explored include choice, consent, communication, personal responsibility, relational safety, nervous system capacity, emotional regulation and more.

Our primary focus is on serving veterans and their support system, as well as youth and families impacted by family disruption, out of home placements, grief and loss.

For more information, contact our Program Director.

Equine Therapy Mental Health is co-led by the Equine Professional and a licensed therapist trained in equine assisted psychotherapy services.  This dynamic approach allows clients to explore their understanding of personal challenges and address therapy goals in a nontraditional environment, opening the doors to enhanced growth potential.

Clients seeking services may be experiencing depression, anxiety, social challenges, or difficulty with daily functioning due to trauma or hardship.

The role of
the horse

With a mission rooted in the mutual wellbeing of horses and people, our mindful integration of horse-human experiences is unlike most equine-supported programs.

Rather than using horses in service of people, we recognize that intentionally experiencing horses and the beauty of connection with them can be life-changing.

Learning about horses and what they need from us to truly thrive allows us to do many things at once:

  • ensure their health and wellbeing

  • learn about and practice components of healthy living and relationship skills

  • experience the transformative nature of horses - how being with them can ground us, bring us into the present moment, allow us to slow down to meet them on equal ground, practice self and relational awareness, and so much more.

At Ruby's Home for Good, the role of the horse is simple - to be a horse. The rest is up to us.
