Our Story

Our founding team was quite familiar with the countless benefits that come from spending time with horses. We had seen firsthand and experienced for ourselves the joy, warmth, connection, and peace that blooms in our time with them.

We also looked around at the horse industry at large and saw, everywhere we looked, horses being used in service of people, at a real cost to their own wellbeing.

So we decided to do something about it.

At the heart of our mission is the deep knowing that doing right by horses is, simply, the right thing to do. And thankfully, it also opens the door to tremendous healing and personal benefit.

By sharing this with our community - both how we do right by horses, and how we can spend time together in a way that supports us both - we bring meaningful change to the lives of horses and people.

Meet the herd

Ruby

Our beloved namesake, Ruby, is an American Mustang born in 2009 who barely escaped slaughter before finding her forever home here. Once wary, reactive and avoidant, Ruby healed her past hurts through our mindful care and dedicated approach to healthy partnerships. Now, she eagerly greets friends new and old and is known to be the "chatty" herd member, vocally sharing her greetings, delight in belly scratches, and requests for treats.

Ghost

Once a valued member of a family, Ghost found himself in a high-risk situation when his owners were no longer willing to care for him. He's a senior gentleman who is blind in one eye and as kind as can be. He is known for giving the sweetest head hugs and has a special connection with the young people who visit. After a lifetime of needing to please people "or else", he is thriving in a supportive environment where he gets to make choices, hang out with his herd mates, and is never punished for being who he is.

Amara

Lovely Amara is a senior quarter horse mare. Sadly, her prior owners neglected essential medical care and had outright disdain for her. When she arrived home for good, she had a habit of freezing if a person so much as approached her. Over time, she has learned that people are in fact kind and helpful. Now she's the first to leave the herd to greet visitors and tell them just where she likes to be scratched.
